Antwerp 2022

For the reconversion of 2 connecting apartments, for a brother and sister, in the city center of Antwerp, we were approached to create a uniform, yet unique atmosphere for both apartments. The close and familial band of both siblings was used as inspiration for the design of both apartments.

Warm shades of pink, dark colored oak doorpanels and a brushed travertine for the FG apartment, a more outspoken marble, natural colored oak and a smoked wooden flooring for the AG apartment, strengthen the personal touch of the owners and give each apartment its own character.

Both spaces indulge in a ray of natural light, enhanced by the soft curved details of the fixed furniture. Classic wall frames around the apartments refer to the historic character of the building.

These designer choices, characterized by a high level of detail, resulted in two apartments with each their own identity, but a collective DNA.

CC Residence Portugal

Cascais, Portugal 2021

This house is located in the coastal town of Cascais, near Lisbon Portugal, embedded in a natural environment. We were commissioned to design a home that could offer a peaceful haven for the owner and his family to retreat in from their cosmopolitan lifestyle.
The challenge lied in converting a rather soulless, new build villa, into a warm, sustainable and modern home. The main intervention consisted of a revised layout for the ground floor areas. The central axis through the house was strengthened on the one hand by visually closing off the staircase, while creating a more intimate entrance hall. This, in combination with a unified design language and continuity of materials induces a strong spatial experience.

The arrangement of the spaces accentuates beautiful sightlines through wide openings between them.
This complete refurbishment entails the reception rooms (living room, dining room, kitchen with excessive winery), spare room including small bathroom and master bed & bathroom. The first floor is dedicated to the children, including three bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms.

The main goal was to create a clean, minimal but informal atmosphere, based around natural materials. The rough structures of the deep brushed oak panelling, patinated metal finishes and sanded travertine stone is countered with the refinement in detail and use of fragile fabric in the closet doors.

Earth tones, such as the dark mineral plaster flooring, refer to the dark soil of the neighbouring natural park. Combined with the red travertine stone, which is continued through the whole floor, it gives a subtle touch of colour and happiness.

The resulting atmosphere is a one of brightness, sophistication and consistency, with a certain informality including spaces for family life.

Knokke 2020

This new built house, surrounded by a beautiful garden is located in a residential area on the Belgian Coast, Knokke. The private residence and garden are completely designed with respect for the natural surrounding and atmosphere. The intent was to create a light, minimalistic, but warm

home suited to modern family life.

The architecture is embedded in the local context, near the coast, with respect to tradition and embracing the essence of life by creating a feeling of warmth and authenticity. This contextual approach, with a focus on natural space and outside light, invites the residents to live a life of quality. The open views between garden and house strengthen the connection and interplay between the interior and exterior design (by Arttec Architects). By using exclusive natural materials – such as onyx, natural stone, terra cotta, leather, mineral plaster and wood – and refinement in detail, we managed to create an environment to express their passion for art, bespoke furniture and enjoying the good life.

We were commissioned to design a very minimalistic and light interior, but with a great sense of warmth and authenticity. Therefore we chose a rough terra cotta flooring in kitchen and wellness area combined with a tactile material such as onyx which is perfect to blend with a warm hidden lighting. Since the residence is located near the coastline and surrounded by dunes, all materials and shapes refer to the color and feeling of sand and sea. All flooring is very textured, referring to the feeling of walking on sand, while all details are rounded and soft. The walls are covered with a natural mineral plaster with few texture which gives the interior a smooth and serene character. The calm atmosphere is really the highlight of this unique and personal residence.

City apartment Antwerp 2020

Set on the 7th floor of a monumental building in the city center of Antwerp, near the background of the historic Bourla Theater, we were commissioned to reconvert two connecting apartments for a brother and sister. The design task involved creating a unique atmosphere for each individual apartment, yet applying a unified language which is extended through the whole floor. The close and familial band of both siblings was used as inspiration for the design of both apartments. This resulted in a neutral uniform natural plaster on all floors and walls, complemented with a warmer smoked, brushed larch wood for the brothers apartment and a natural, brushed larch wood for the sisters apartment. Both spaces used a soft natural stone as base in the kitchen, combined with a more outspoken marble countertop in both bathrooms. A combination of soft pink and gold details throughout the JP apartment and gun metal and warm brown in the TP apartment, strengthen the personal touch of the owners and give each apartment its own character.

Both spaces indulge in a ray of natural light, enhanced by the soft curved details of the fixed furniture. This design language is continued through the whole floor including the large tv-wall in apartment JP and bespoke cocktail islands in the kitchen area of the TP apartment. These designer choices, characterized by a high level of detail, resulted in two apartments with each their own identity, but a collective DNA.
